KeyNote Privacy Policy

Last updated May 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Next Apps LLC (“Next Apps,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use KeyNote, our Chrome extension that turns typing cadence into adaptive classical-inspired audio.

Summary

  • KeyNote does not read, store, or transmit the text you type.
  • KeyNote processes keyboard event metadata locally so it can respond to typing rhythm and play audio.
  • Preferences, per-site disable rules, installed sound packs, and license information are stored locally in your browser profile.
  • Optional telemetry is disabled by default. If you enable it, events are anonymous and sanitized to exclude text, URLs, hostnames, page titles, and key codes.
  • Premium sound pack payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.

Information KeyNote Processes Locally

KeyNote runs in your browser and uses local processing for its core music features. The extension may process the following information on your device:

  • Keyboard event metadata: event timestamp, physical key code, whether the key is Backspace or a modifier key, and whether the event occurred in an editable field. This metadata is used to map typing rhythm to playback behavior.
  • Preferences: whether KeyNote is enabled, selected mode, volume, sensitivity, media-lowering preference, startup behavior, telemetry setting, and keyboard shortcuts.
  • Per-site rules: hostnames for sites where you choose to disable KeyNote, stored locally so your preference can be honored.
  • Sound pack and license data: active pack, installed packs, local audio assets, license tokens, anonymous local IDs, and a device fingerprint used to bind premium access to your browser profile.
  • Media state: whether a page appears to have audible media playing, used to lower KeyNote volume when that setting is on.

Information KeyNote Does Not Collect

KeyNote does not collect, store, or transmit:

  • The words, characters, passwords, or form values you type
  • Page text or document contents
  • Page titles, full URLs, browsing history, or search history
  • Account profiles, contacts, emails, or messages
  • Payment card numbers

Information Sent Off Device

KeyNote is designed to keep the core typing-to-music experience local. Some information may be sent off device only for the features below.

Optional telemetry

Telemetry is disabled by default. If you enable it, KeyNote may send an anonymous telemetry ID and limited product events, such as extension installation, mode selection, session start or end, flow state reached, sound pack previewed, purchase completed, pack switched, or site disabled.

Telemetry properties are sanitized before they are sent. We do not send text, values, key names, key codes, page titles, URLs, hostnames, or domains in telemetry events.

Stripe payments and licenses

If you purchase a premium sound pack, payment checkout is processed by Stripe. Stripe may collect payment, billing, and transaction information that you provide during checkout, and Stripe handles that information under its own privacy policy. KeyNote sends purchase-related information to our backend and Stripe, such as the requested pack ID, extension ID, device fingerprint, checkout session ID, and license information needed to unlock the pack. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.

Sound pack delivery

KeyNote may request sound pack manifests and audio assets from our backend or content delivery storage so the selected pack can be installed or updated.

How We Use Information

We use information only to:

  • Provide adaptive audio playback and mode behavior
  • Save your settings and per-site choices
  • Deliver sound packs and verify premium access
  • Prevent abuse, troubleshoot, and maintain the extension
  • Understand product usage if you choose to enable telemetry

Service Providers

We may use service providers to operate KeyNote, including Cloudflare for backend and delivery infrastructure, Stripe for payment processing, and PostHog for optional analytics if telemetry is enabled. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to us.

Data Retention and Controls

  • Local extension data remains in your browser profile until you change settings, remove site rules, clear extension data, or uninstall KeyNote.
  • You can disable telemetry in KeyNote settings.
  • You can disable KeyNote on specific sites from the popup.
  • Purchase and license records may be retained as needed to provide access, support, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.

Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

KeyNote's use of information received from Chrome extension APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use extension data only to provide or improve the user-facing KeyNote features described in the extension and this policy.

Children's Privacy

KeyNote is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
